A Conversation with the Divine
“Conversing with God is prayer.” – Sri Bhagavan
Prayer is simply that—a conversation with your personal Divine. It need not be long or filled with elaborate words. It is like speaking to a dear friend, a parent, or a spouse—with openness, joy, honesty, and vulnerability. All the emotions present in your most intimate relationships are mirrored in your relationship with the Divine. A prayer is like an itch on the skin of the Divine—does an itch not receive immediate attention? At its essence, prayer is a conversation. When offered with authenticity, clarity, and intention, it has the power to shift anything and everything.
“Prayer is the maximum you can do and the minimum you should do.” – Sri Bhagavan

While a central aspect of the Golden Age Movement mystical path is to cultivate a deep and personal bond with the Divine in the form of The Great Compassionate Light Sri Amma Bhagavan, this prayer process is universal and may be practiced with any form of God or deity you hold sacred. All forms of the Divine are welcome in this movement. This article focuses specifically on the structure of prayer—and how to offer it most effectively.
“Prayer is not a ritual. It is a sacred communion with the Divine.” - Sri Bhagavan
1. One Prayer at a Time
Each prayer should focus on a single desire—either Iham (worldly) or Param (spiritual).
Sri Amma oversees all Iham prayers. She is the Divine Mother, always ready to respond with action, protection, and provision. Like all mothers, She acts quickly and lovingly to care for Her children.
Sri Bhagavan is the giver of Param, offering enlightenment, inner liberation, wisdom, and transformation.
While these are their primary roles, they may interchange depending on the need. Cultivating a living bond with Sri Amma Bhagavan is essential. Just as you nurture authentic connections with a parent, spouse, or best friend, you must nurture an authentic connection with Sri Amma Bhagavan for your prayers to be fulfilled more fully and swiftly.
Depending on the nature of your need, you should address Sri Amma Bhagavan accordingly—for example, Banker Sri Amma Bhagavan for financial matters, Doctor Sri Amma Bhagavan for health, or Mechanic Sri Amma Bhagavan for vehicle concerns.
2. Focus on the Solution, Not the Problem
Don’t focus on the problem—focus on the outcome you want. Make your request as expansive and complete as possible. For example: instead of listing specific health issues in individual prayers, simply ask for perfect health. This allows your prayer to be more powerful and comprehensive—and may even address areas you weren’t consciously aware of. Remember: the purpose of prayer is to generate abundance, not to dwell on what is lacking.
3. Authenticity
Be honest with yourself and with Sri Amma Bhagavan about why you are praying. It doesn’t matter if your motive is jealousy, a desire for respect, or the pursuit of fame—as long as it is genuine, meaningful to you, and causes no harm to others. If your prayer doesn’t truly matter to you, it won’t carry weight with the Divine. But when a prayer is authentic and meaningful, it naturally resonates with the Divine.
4. Clarity and Visualization
It is essential to be clear about what you are asking for:
What does your prayer look like?
What does it feel like?
How will your life change once your prayer is fulfilled?
Visualize your prayer vividly—see it in full color, alive with light and feeling, as if it is happening now. Then imagine a screen before you divided into two parts: the left side represents the past, and the right side symbolizes the present. It is important to visualize your prayer on the right side, as something that is already taking place. As you pray, gently bring your focus to your right eye and move your head slightly to the right, allowing your awareness to rest in the space where your prayer is unfolding.
If visualization does not come easily, focus instead on feeling it deeply as already fulfilled. Either way, surrender it fully to the Divine, trusting They will lovingly take care of you.
5. Emotion and Bond
Emotion is a vital ingredient in prayer. It includes fully feeling your prayer as already answered—as though it is happening now—while experiencing your loving connection to The Great Compassionate Light Sri Amma Bhagavan. Love what you are asking for, and feel the joy of already having received it. Feel gratitude for all that has already been given.
The stronger your bond with The Great Compassionate Light Sri Amma Bhagavan, the deeper the emotion you can feel in prayer—and the more powerful your prayers become.
When you come to pray, it is important to do so from a positive emotional state, as this greatly enhances the power of your prayer. If you’re not in a positive state, take a moment to get up and move around, then return to your seat and focus on something that shifts you into a positive space, such as a person, a place, or even the image of Sri Amma Bhagavan—whatever helps you enter a receptive, uplifted state.
As Sri Bhagavan teaches, "The best form of prayer is gratitude."
6. Agreement (Sat Karma)
One of the most overlooked elements of prayer is the agreement. The ability of Sri Amma Bhagavan to respond depends on the amount of sat karma (good karma) you have in your spiritual account, much like you need money in the bank to get what you want. Sat karma is earned through selfless acts of love and service. This agreement is a promise to give back once the prayer is fulfilled. You are borrowing against the sat karma you will earn in the future to receive what you desire now.
If a prayer remains unanswered for some time, it may be due to an insufficient agreement. In such cases, a new agreement may need to be made—or the prayer itself may need to be reworded with greater clarity or alignment.
Parental Relationships
For prayers to be answered easily and quickly, it is important to make sure you have put right your relationship with your parents—healing any hurt or anger so that only love remains—since this relationship is key to every aspect of your life. The mother governs health and the smooth flow of life and relationships, while the father governs wealth. This can be done internally whether your parents are living or have already transitioned.
Conclusion
“Prayer can change anything and everything.” – Sri Bhagavan
When prayer flows from authenticity, clarity, a deep bond of love, and surrender in trust, it becomes a channel for Grace that can transform both your life and your destiny.
